Chris Kaba, a 24-year-old linked to the Brixton Hill-based 67 gang, was involved in two shootings just days before he was fatally shot by a Metropolitan Police officer during a car stop in Streatham on September 5, 2022.
His alleged criminal involvement has surfaced following the acquittal of officer Martyn Blake, who was cleared of murder charges in connection to the shooting.
Kaba was implicated in a violent attack at the Oval Space nightclub in Hackney, where Brandon Malutshi was shot in both legs.
The Old Bailey trial revealed that Kaba had reportedly brought a firearm into the nightclub, creating panic on the dancefloor.
He then allegedly pursued Malutshi into the street and shot him again as he fled.
Gunshot residue on Kaba’s clothing and a balaclava in his possession on the night of his death linked him to another shooting just the day before, further tying him to gang-related violence.
Kaba’s death has reignited debates about police conduct, crime, and public accountability.
Justice Secretary Shabana Mahmood urged the public to respect the verdict but acknowledged that more must be done to build trust.
Kaba’s family, after enduring weeks of court proceedings, vowed to continue seeking justice. Protests erupted outside the Old Bailey following the jury’s decision.
