Just one day after topless locker room photos of the University of Wisconsin women’s volleyball team were leaked online, the team, known as the Badgers, returned to action, defeating Michigan State in straight sets (25-22, 25-16, 25-15).
The University of Wisconsin police have launched an investigation into how these private images and videos of the national champion team were shared without consent.
On Wednesday, the athletic department confirmed that players had contacted campus police upon learning of the unauthorized release of the photos, which include images and video that are still circulating online.
The specific individuals involved remain unnamed.
According to the university’s statement, the police are examining several criminal aspects, particularly the distribution of sensitive content without permission.
University of Wisconsin police spokesperson Marc Lovicott acknowledged the active investigation but did not provide further details, emphasizing that the players themselves are not under suspicion.
The athletic department expressed its commitment to supporting the athletes with necessary resources and services.
The Badgers, who won their first national championship last year against Nebraska, have also made it to the Final Four for the past three years under Coach Kelly Sheffield.
The recently surfaced photos appear to capture the players celebrating last season’s Big Ten championship win.
