In the early hours of Tuesday morning, millions of Verizon Fios customers across the East Coast reported internet outages, with user data from Downdetector indicating the affected region stretched roughly 300 miles from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, down to Richmond, Virginia.
Responding to a user complaint on X (formerly Twitter), Verizon confirmed that an outage or network maintenance was impacting the area, apologizing for the disruption and promising an update once more details were available.
Reports of service issues began to surge between midnight and 2 am EST, according to Downdetector, which tracks live service disruptions.
Alongside the East Coast, some parts of southern Kansas were reportedly impacted as well.
In Maryland, a user shared a Verizon update indicating that repair work had started at 10:50 pm EST, with a projected restoration time of 10:58 am EST on Tuesday.
Verizon Fios, known for its fiber-optic internet, TV, and phone services, is the largest mobile service provider in the U.S.
In addition to Verizon, other providers like AT&T, Cox, and Xfinity also experienced spikes in outage reports on Downdetector, and Outage.
Report received complaints across 26 cities. Users voiced frustration over the hours-long outage, noting that Verizon had yet to release an official public statement on the issue.
Most complaints (90%) were about internet disruptions, with 9% reporting total blackouts and 1% experiencing issues with TV streaming.
Verizon’s support page on X responded to individual complaints, asking users to message them directly, though no broader announcement has been made yet.
The company has faced similar outages in recent months, including ones in September and October.
