Chaos In Rogue Trader
Chaos in Rogue Trader is a complex and dangerous phenomenon that can affect the fate of your character and the galaxy.
Significantly, chaos is the name given to the four dark gods of the Warhammer 40k universe.
Khorne, the god of blood and war; Nurgle, the god of decay and disease; Tzeentch, the god of change and magic; and Slaanesh, the god of pleasure and excess.
Contrarily, these gods are constantly competing for power and influence.
Further, they seek to corrupt and manipulate mortals to serve their agendas.
How Does The Chaos Affect The Game?
Depending on the choices and actions of the player, a Rogue Trader may fall into chaos.
This will make them a heretic, a renegade, or even a daemon prince.
However, this will have drastic consequences for the character’s appearance, abilities, alignment, and reputation.
Eventually, falling into chaos may also grant some benefits, but at a terrible cost to the character’s soul and sanity.
The main aspects of chaos and how they affect the game are as follows:
1. Chaos Alignment
This is a measure of how much the character is influenced by chaos.
It ranges from 0 to 5, with 0 being loyal to the Imperium and 5 being fully devoted to chaos.
Significantly, increasing the chaos alignment will unlock new perks and abilities.
Further, makes the character more susceptible to the warp and its dangers.
2. Chaos God
This is the specific patron deity of the character, if players choose to worship one of the four chaos gods.
The type and frequency of their sinful actions and some key events and dialogues determine the character’s chaos god.
Generally, each chaos god has a different theme and personality, and will grant different bonuses and penalties to the character.
3. Chaos Corruption
This is a measure of how much the character’s body and mind have been warped by chaos.
It ranges from 0 to 100, where 0 indicates normal and 100 indicates full mutation.
Importantly, the chaos alignment, chaos god, and exposure to the warp influence the character’s chaos corruption.
Generally, increasing the chaos corruption will cause the character to undergo physical and mental changes.
Some of these changes may be beneficial, while others may be detrimental.
4. Chaos Aspirant
Becoming a chaos aspirant means that their chaos god has chosen the character to ascend to a higher level of existence.
Further, they will receive a final test to prove their worthiness.
If the character passes the test, they will become a daemon prince, a semi-divine being of chaos.
However, if they fail, they will become a chaos spawn, a mindless abomination of chaos.
How To Avoid Falling To Chaos?
If you want to avoid falling into chaos in Rogue Trader, you should follow these tips:
1. Discard Theodora’s Help
Do not accept Theodora’s help on the Upper Decks in the prologue.
Generally, she is a vision of the warp and will lead you to the path of heresy.
2. Avoid Making Choices
Avoid making choices marked as [Heretical] throughout the game.
Thus, these choices will increase your chaos alignment and corruption, and make you more vulnerable to the influence of the dark gods.
3. Resist The Temptation
Resist the temptation of the Lord of Change in the dream event.
Therefore, do not agree to become his aspirant; do not pick up the shard.
Contrarily, these actions will seal your fate as a servant of chaos.
4. Stay loyal
Stay loyal to the Imperium of Man and its values.
Moreover, seek out allies and resources that support your cause, and avoid those that are tainted by the warp.
5. Distance Yourself From Chaos Spawn
If you encounter a Chaos Spawn, a twisted abomination of chaos, try to keep your distance and focus your fire on it.
Therefore, do not let it get close to you or your party members, as it can deal massive damage and inflict debuffs.
The Bottom Line
Rogue Trader chaos is the possibility of surrendering to the dark influence of the four chaos gods.
Falling into chaos involves making sinful choices, increasing chaos alignment and corruption, and becoming an aspirant of a chaos god.
However, avoiding chaos involves resisting the temptations of the warp, and fighting against the enemies of humanity.
