Why To Uninstall Threads App?
It depends on users’ personal choice and experience with the app whether to uninstall it.
If you are happy with the Threads app, you don’t need to uninstall it. But if you face any issues or dissatisfaction with the app, you can permanently delete it from your phone and try other alternatives.
However, there are different reasons why someone might want to uninstall the Threads app. Some possible reasons are:
- Battery drain: Some users have reported that the Threads app drains their smartphone’s battery faster than usual.
- Censorship: Some journalists and critics have accused the Threads app of having a grotesque censorship policy that silences dissenting voices.
- Preference: Some users might prefer other apps for text-based conversations, such as Twitter, Telegram, Signal, etc.
How To Uninstall The Threads App?
There are different ways to uninstall or remove apps and programs in Windows, depending on the app and the device you are using.
However, if you want to delete your Threads profile, you should know that it will also delete your entire Instagram account, as the two Meta apps are naturally connected.
This is because your Threads profile is part of your Instagram account and uses it to access the app.
If you still want to delete your Threads profile and your Instagram account, you can follow these steps:
- Open the Instagram app and tap on your profile picture in the top left corner.
- Then, tap on Settings and Privacy > Accounts Centre > Personal details.
- Next, tap on Account Ownership and Control> Deactivation and Deletion.
- Further, tap on Delete Account > Continue.
- Finally, enter your Instagram password and tap on Delete Account.
This will permanently delete your Threads profile, Instagram account, and all your photos, videos, messages, followers, and other data.
However, you cannot reactivate your account or retrieve any of the content you have shared.
Risks Of Uninstalling The Threads App
Before you uninstall the Threads app, you should be aware that it is linked to your Instagram account, and deleting it may also delete your Instagram account.
You should only deactivate your Threads profile to keep your Instagram presence instead of uninstalling the app.
Follow the steps below to deactivate the Threads app:
- Go to the Profile tab in the Threads app.
- Tap on Settings > Account, and then tap on Deactivate profile.
This will hide your Threads profile from other users, but you can still view and send messages using the app.
You can reactivate your profile anytime by opening the app and tapping Reactivate Profile.
However, Meta is looking into a way to delete your Threads account separately, but it is not available yet.
The Bottom Line
You should weigh the pros and cons of uninstalling the app before you decide to do so.
Uninstalling the Threads app will not delete your account or your messages, but you will not be able to access them from the app.
Alternatively, you can disable notifications or adjust settings to reduce the app’s impact on your device.
